I am looking forward to reading the NIV New Testament study notes. I have an NIV already so that is not what I bought it for. I wanted to get the notes.

For example

There is a 2 + 1/2 page long spreadsheet style table beginning on page 380 and ending on page 382 called "The Work of the Holy Spirit"

I just did a
Look Inside and discovered the whole Bible has an appendix table called the Themefinders and for some reason my New Testament does not include it. I do have the New Testament Subject Index and the Concordance for the whole bible, and the Table of Weights and Measures, but not the
Themefinders

I do have the Table of Contents:

Maps and Charts

which lists the Work of the Holy Spirit  on page 380

If you do a Look Inside on the whole Bible go to the Table of Contents and then the Maps and charts and you will see the Work of the Holy Spirit chart as being on page 1803 which is after 2 Cor which ends on 1802 but before Gal which begins on 1806

Here is an example of a chart line item

Where to Go When In Need

Where to Go When In Need: When believers have need, they can approach the throne with confidence because of who God is, and because of how He has changed them. Dr. Stanley teaches about the benefits of going to God's throne with our needs, and what we will find there.
I found this radio broadcast on the home page in the lower right corner and decided to share it as a post also.

Galatians for the week of 9/18/2018

Galatians
So far in Galatians, we spent time understanding why Paul wrote the book of Galatians.    Read chapters 1 and 2, then ask yourself, who is Paul and where does his authority come from?  Why is he so passionate towards the Galatians?  What must the Galatians, and ultimately us, believe?   How difficult is it to see “truth”?   Where does true freedom come from?    Can you see the character of God in your answers?   How important is the Gospel?

We will start to develop an understanding of the “Law”.    The word “Law” shows up 32 times in Gal 2-6.   Conduct a word search of the word “Law” in Galatians.
Gal 2:16 ESV

For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.
Read through the verses containing the word  law.    What do those verses say about the law?
We need to stop pushing the law as something that must be obeyed before people can be saved if we are doing that.
Write down a list of what the law does and doesn’t provide.
The Law Provides us with Death

The Law Provides us with something that we can get out from under
Gal 4:5 ESV

to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

The Law Provides us with the potential to become a curse for us because Christ

became a curse for us as it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangeth upon a

tree
Gal 3:13 ESV
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
Gal 3:10 ESV
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
The Law Doesn't Provide Life

Gal 3:11 ESV
Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
The Law Doesn't Provide right standing, justification before God as the verse says.
   Then re-read Gal 3:1-14.

Galatians 3:1–14

By Faith, or by Works of the Law?
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? zIt was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly aportrayed as crucified.

Let me ask you only this: bDid you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by chearing with faith?

Are you so foolish? dHaving begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by1 the flesh?

eDid you suffer2 so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?

Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and fworks miracles among you do so gby works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

just as hAbraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

Know then that it is ithose of faith who are jthe sons of Abraham.

And the Scripture, foreseeing that kGod would justify3 the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, l“In you shall all the nations be blessed.”

So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith
10 For all who rely on works of the law are munder a curse; for it is written, n“Cursed be everyone who does not oabide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

11 Now it is evident that pno one is justified before God by the law, for q“The righteous shall live by faith.”4

12 But the law is not of faith, rather r“The one who does them shall live by them.”

13 Christ sredeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, t“Cursed is everyone who is hanged uon a tree”—

14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might vcome to the Gentiles, so that wwe might receive xthe promised Spirit5 through faith.

Read Rom 1:18 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth of unrighteousness.
God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness
18 For kthe wrath of God lis revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
1:18 the wrath of God Refers to God’s righteous judgment upon evil. In this context, the evil in view is immorality and the suppression of the truth about God. God reveals His wrath by giving people over to their sin, thereby allowing them to morally decline even further (Rom 1:24–28). This foreshadows His final judgment (see 2 Thess 2:9–12).

Should Christians Follow Old Testament Law?

truth Elsewhere, the Greek word used here, alētheia, usually refers to the gospel (Col 1:5; 1 Tim 2:4); here, however, it refers more generally to the truth about God (Rom 1:25). Those who suppress the truth deny what is made obvious about God through creation (vv. 19–20) and do not acknowledge God as sovereign Creator.

And Rom 1:24-25 – “Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity…… 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie…..
24 Therefore sGod gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to tthe dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for ua lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, vwho is blessed forever! Amen.
1:24 God gave them over God allowed for people to do as they desired, even when it meant opposing his will for their lives. This is part of the judgment related to God’s wrath (see note on Rom 1:18).
Paul uses the Greek word paradidōmi (often translated “gave over” or gave up”) three times in this passage (vv. 242628) to emphasize God’s deliberate response to humanity’s wicked ways: He allows people to continue to live a life of increasing sin.
immorality The Greek word used here, akatharsia, refers to illicit sexual activity (2 Cor 12:21Gal 5:19Eph 5:3).
1:25 truth of God Refers to the truth that God revealed through His creation (see note on Rom 1:18).

who is blessed for eternity A doxology meaning that God is worthy of limitless adoration and worship. It also is an example of the kind of honor and thanksgiving that people should give to Him (compare v. 21).

How does Abraham live?  By faith
Why does he live that way? The first requirement of a saved person who used to be a sinner is to change, be born again, be new, live a new way, by faith, and many say they had no other option because they were compelled by the Love of God to live this new way.

Where does righteousness originate?
Once Abraham believed God and God accounted it to him as righteousness, then righteousness was born. Before was the fall and the expulsion.
What does it reflect?   A change, a new heart, a new birth, eternal life for the righteous believer
